About Lewis

Lewis Hill was born on 5 October 1990 in Leicester, England. He is a right-handed batsman and a wicket-keeper.  Hill featured in the youth and academy structures at Leicestershire County Cricket Club, playing Second XI cricket from around 2009.  In 2012, he was selected for the Unicorns squad in the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition, marking his List A entry.  He made his first-class debut for Leicestershire on 3 May 2015, against Kent County Cricket Club.

Career Milestones 

  • On his first-class debut, Hill scored 57 and 3.  

  • One notable innings came when Hill made 126 off 147 balls opening the batting for Leicestershire at The Oval.  

  • He was appointed Leicestershire’s white-ball captain in 2021, and took on red-ball captaincy in November 2022.  

  • In 2018, he claimed 29 catches in the County Championship season.

  • As a wicket-keeper batsman, Hill offers versatility: able to bat as an opener or middle order, and contribute behind the stumps. 

  • His first-class average in the low 30s reflects consistent runs, while his knack for centuries underlines his capacity to play big innings. 

  • The catching & stumping numbers show he’s dependable in his wicket-keeping role, enhancing his value in the team. 

  • In shorter formats, his T20 and List A strike rates (where available) show he’s capable of accelerating when required. 

Lewis Hill has progressed steadily through the academy and Second XI ranks into a senior professional career with Leicestershire. With over 5,000 first-class runs, multiple centuries, leadership appointments, and dependable wicket-keeping, he has become a key figure in his side.
